It’s amazing how much society has evolved in the ways of technology. Back then, everything was done by hand, and the process of getting things done took a decent amount of time. Today, you can get answers to questions, contact and connect with people, apply for jobs, or even shop online thanks to technology.
There comes an instant gratification with having power and control right at your fingertips. You can access anything you need wherever you want and whenever you want. You can stay connected with friends and family members who live far away easier than writing a letter and waiting days or even months for a reply. Instead of traveling to the mall, you can shop in the comfort of your house.
The other thing that amazes me is the impact of social media not just in our personal lives, but now jobs too! For our personal lives, we have the power to choose what to and not to post to show what is going on in our lives or thoughts we are having that day. We can also, dare I say “stalk,” on how our friends and family members are doing. With jobs, they are using certain platforms to promote their products or special events. They are also able to connect more with their customers, and having this connection can help businesses improve their services and products based on the feedback they are given.
Of course, there is a negative side to all of this. Just one post that is negative can tarnish either a person’s or company’s image. If there is a news story trending, it’s basically being thrown at your face whether you like it or not. News on social media can pass around faster than news on television. People are not as social as they used to be: when was the last time you called a friend to just talk? The speed of technology has put pressure on companies in terms of traffic. People are obsessed with the number of followers and likes they have, which could even affect their self-esteem!
Technology is a powerful tool that can either be used for good or bad. However way you like to present yourself on whatever platform you use is entirely up to you. After all, you are in control!
