It's a day that everyone gets excited for. It's a day that everyone feels emotional, both happy and sad. It's a day family and friends get together to celebrate all that you accomplished. It's a day where a chapter in your life closes to open up a new one.
It's Graduation Day.
All last week, I was seeing thousands of posts on Facebook and Instagram of some of my friends graduating high school, and I couldn't help but reminisce on my high school graduation. I graduated three years ago, and will soon enough graduate college May 2017.
For me, it was a very bittersweet time. I knew there would be a lot of things I would miss about high school, such as my teachers, friends, the clubs I was involved in, the environment that I grew so comfortable in for the past four years, etc. At the same time, I knew there would also be things I didn't miss, like rushing to my next class in five minutes before the bell rang, or else, you were late.
Some people don't want to leave high school, some people can't wait to get out. Some, like me, are in the middle. As for parents, they are proud of everything their son/daughter accomplished, but at the same time are sad that their child is growing up and will slowly begin to "leave the nest" if you will.
It's a bittersweet time. Some people can adjust to change easily than others. For me, it took a while, and it's okay if it will for you too. It's hard to leave a place with the people you feel so close to, but at the same time, it's necessary so you can continue to learn and grow. If we stayed in the same place with the same people, we would never grow, we would never get challenged, we would never accomplish anything new.
While it's sad, remember that it's not goodbye forever. You can always keep in touch with those people, and you can always come back to visit.
Graduation is a time to celebrate and reflect on all the good times you had. It's a time where you can look back at any of the mistakes you made and take those lessons that you learned into the next chapter of your life. It's a time to look forward to the future. It's a time to be free.
Congratulations to the Class of 2016, and I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors!
